Marco Bezzecchi delivered a masterclass at Mugello, giving Aprilia one of the most significant victories in its recent MotoGP history. In front of a passionate Italian crowd and under the Tuscan sun, the 2026 MotoGP World Championship leader claimed victory in the Italian Grand Prix after a thrilling and hard-fought race.
The Italian rider once again confirmed his outstanding form, turning his Mugello weekend into a masterpiece. After being among the frontrunners from the opening practice sessions, Bezzecchi built his success through flawless race management, remaining calm under pressure and extracting the maximum performance from his Aprilia RS-GP.
Francesco Bagnaia attempted to dictate the pace during the early stages of the race, relying on Ducati’s strength at its home circuit. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin remained within striking distance, ready to capitalize on any opportunity at the front.
As the laps went by, however, Aprilia’s pace became increasingly evident. Bezzecchi gradually increased his rhythm and created the gap needed to take full control of the race. Behind him, Martin completed a remarkable one-two finish for the Italian manufacturer, confirming the exceptional level reached by the RS-GP during the 2026 season.
Bagnaia ultimately had to settle for third place. The Ducati star fought hard in front of his home fans but was unable to match the pace shown by the Aprilia riders during the second half of the race. Nevertheless, the podium remains an important result for his championship campaign.
Just behind the leading trio, Ai Ogura delivered one of the performances of the day. The Japanese rider came close to securing a podium finish after an impressive charge through the field. Pedro Acosta also impressed with his aggressive riding style and consistent pace throughout the race.
Another rider under the spotlight was Marc Marquez, competing as he continued his recovery from recent surgery. The Spaniard showed encouraging signs, particularly in the latter stages of the race, finishing inside the top positions and collecting valuable championship points.
The Mugello victory means much more than just another race win for Bezzecchi. The Italian further strengthens his lead in the 2026 MotoGP World Championship and sends a powerful message to his rivals. At one of the most iconic circuits in motorcycle racing, in front of tens of thousands of passionate fans, the championship leader proved once again that he is currently the benchmark of the MotoGP grid.
For Aprilia, it was a historic day. The one-two finish achieved by Bezzecchi and Martin confirms the extraordinary progress made by the Italian manufacturer, which managed to dominate at Mugello and spoil what many expected to be a Ducati celebration on home soil.
