Saturday at the Italian Grand Prix delivered a thrilling Sprint Race packed with action, drama and intense battles. In front of a passionate Mugello crowd, Raul Fernandez secured his first-ever MotoGP Sprint victory with a flawless performance that saw him control the race from start to finish.
The Trackhouse Aprilia rider made an aggressive launch off the line and capitalized on the chaos of the opening laps to move into the lead. Once at the front, Fernandez established an impressive rhythm, managing both tire wear and race pace perfectly while keeping his rivals at bay throughout the contest.
Behind him, reigning World Champion Jorge Martin pushed hard in an attempt to close the gap. The Spaniard remained within striking distance for much of the race but never managed to launch a decisive attack. Nevertheless, second place represents another valuable result in the championship battle and highlights Aprilia’s outstanding competitiveness at Mugello.
Fabio Di Giannantonio completed the podium after another impressive performance in front of his home fans. Having topped Friday’s Practice sessions, the VR46 rider confirmed his excellent form with a smart and calculated race. A decisive move in the closing stages allowed him to secure third place and send the Italian crowd into celebration.
Pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi was unable to convert his record-breaking qualifying performance into victory. Despite showing excellent pace, several incidents during the opening laps forced him into recovery mode. He eventually crossed the line in fourth position, collecting important points and keeping himself firmly in contention for Sunday’s Grand Prix.
Much of the attention was focused on Marc Marquez as he continued his comeback following recent surgery. The Spanish champion showed encouraging speed, particularly during the second half of the race, recovering several positions after a difficult start. His fifth-place finish offers plenty of optimism ahead of the main race on Sunday.
The extreme track temperatures added another layer of difficulty to the Sprint. With asphalt temperatures approaching 50°C, tire management became a crucial factor. Several riders paid the price for pushing too hard, while others struggled to maintain consistency over the race distance.
The Fernandez-Martin one-two finish marked a dream result for Aprilia, confirming the Italian manufacturer’s strength at one of the most iconic circuits on the calendar. However, with riders such as Bezzecchi, Di Giannantonio, Bagnaia and Marquez still aiming for glory in Sunday’s Grand Prix, the battle for victory remains wide open.
