Red Bull Cerro Abajo, the ultimate urban downhill series connecting Latin America and Europe, is back in Valparaíso, Chile for its 22nd edition. The rider lineup features some familiar names like last year’s Red Bull Valparaíso Cerro Abajo winner Tomas Slavik (CZE), 2025 podium finishers Felipe Agurto (CHI) and Lucas Borba (BRA) – who also took the event win in 2024 – as well as two-time Valparaíso winner Pedro Ferreira (CHI). Here is all you need to know:
– The 25-26 urban downhill World Series started off in Italy, August 2025, where the riders competed in the highly physical terrain of Genova, fastest track of the series, with Roger Vieira (BRA) claiming his first ever Red Bull Cerro Abajo win.
– Now the series continues with its second overall stop, set in the lively city of Valparaíso, Chile. With winding streets, steep hills, historic funiculars (ascensores), and vibrant, graffiti-covered buildings, Valparaíso’s cityscape is the perfect setting for the raw, unpredictable racing in Red Bull Valparaiso Cerro Abajo.
– In 2025 it was the legendary Czech rider Tomáš Slavík who was crowned as the ‘King of the Port’ for a fourth time in the series’ history. Facing a heavily revised course that featured an all-new top half compared to 2024, Slavík clocked in a blistering time of 2m18s, reaching speeds of over 54kph in the process, as well as made history by becoming one of the three most successful riders in the competition’s history.
– With victories in 2017, 2018, 2023 and 2025, Slavík shares the record for most Red Bull Valparaíso Cerro Abajo wins together with Chile’s Antonio Leiva and Slovakia’s Filip Polc. Whether Slavík will re-write his name in the urban downhill history books with a 5th win, only Sunday’s race will tell.
– “When I stand at the start gate I always race to win. Not just for the P1, but for the performance, for pushing the limits and for the people. A fifth win would be something truly special. It would mean writing another chapter in the history of a race I deeply respect. But nothing here is guaranteed. Every year is different, every year I’m older and winning gets harder”, says Tomas Slavík.
– When asked what makes the Red Bull Valparaíso Cerro Abajo special, the elite performer does not have to think twice for an answer. “The atmosphere. The energy of the city. That moment at the top when you hear the crowd below and know you’re about to drop into 2,5 minutes of total commitment. I’m also looking forward to racing against the new generation of riders. The level of Latin American riders right now is incredibly high. That pushes all of us to be better.”
– Built across approximately 44 steep hills (cerros), the city drops sharply toward the Pacific Ocean, creating a natural playground for high-speed, high-risk racing. All together, the Red Bull Valparaíso Cerro Abajo track stretches approximately 1.65 km, featuring a vertical drop of around 230 metres and nearly 280 steps along the way, complemented by signature man-made features such as ramps, wallrides, and jumps.
– Unchanged from the previous season, Slavík is thrilled to get back on the unforgiving Valparaíso track. “Wow, last years and this years layout is INSANE! I love the speed and once you are through the hardest section which is first 50% of a track, there its a true relief. You need physical strength, but even more mental control. One small mistake can end your run and consequences can be high. Valpo is very special.”
Watch Red Bull Valparaíso Cerro Abajo live on Red Bull TV and Red Bull Bike YouTube channel this Sunday 15, at 20:15 (GMT+2).
